Bob Smith
(The Godfather) started the Richmond Baseball Academy 13 years ago. A
scout with the Minnesota Twins, Coach Smith has spent
the last 11 years scouting Professional baseball, and 15
years prior to that coaching baseball at the Division 1 level.
Smith has
been on staff at Louisiana State University, the University
of Tennessee, the University of Kentucky and most recently
at Virginia Commonwealth University.
More than
130 players having had the benefit of Smith's coaching have
signed professional contracts. Twenty two players have
made it to the Major Leagues, with Justin Verlander his most
recent student to achieve great success.
"Development"
is the key for Smith. His focus has been to teach
young players the proper fundamentals to prepare them for
success at the next level - whether it be preparing for
little league all-stars or preparing high school players for
college.
To date,
over 175 area players have gone on to play in college over
the past 13 years.
Bob has
become the Director of Team Development at RBA and is
excited about working with all teams from 9 years to
showcase baseball.
